“Let’s get together and provide a proper environment for these kids to build a better future.”
Situated in the Kolunga fishing village on Rusinga Island along Lake Victoria in western Kenya, Mimi Education Center a local school supports orphans and vulnerable children between 2-8 years of age. Village has been hit hard by HIV/AIDS resulting in many orphaned children and several testing positive for HIV. This school supports 140 children, with the help of 5 teachers, and 6 staff that help cook, clean and provide security. The local community is very actively involved in supporting this charity.
Smile Donor collaborated with several projects like building the water tank, building bathrooms and providing a playground for the children.
The water tank eased the situation for the staff who were required to fetch water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and irrigation by carrying water on their heads from the lake 200 meters away. Staff had to make almost fifty daily trips to the lake to provide adequate water supply.
The new bathroom provided by Smile Donor was a welcome relief for the 140 children and kids who were earlier sharing a single bathroom which was causing a significantly high concern for health hazards.
