First STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Workshop for Underprivileged children was organized at Amritsar on 20 October 2015. Smile Donor organized this workshop for the students of Mission Deep Charitable School. A team of highly qualified STEM professionals from Intel flew to Amritsar to conduct the workshop. Over 200 students and teachers performed hand on activities using simple aids – e.g. BORAX (Sodium Borate) Powder and glue to create Crazy Ball and using paper circuits and LEDs to create wearables. The creative mind of these kids was revealed when they started creating their own structures using these simple aids. They participated wholeheartedly and it was great to see the zeal, enthusiasm, and brightness in kids’ eyes during the workshop.

Smile Donor aims to build “DoItYourself” culture through playing and learning activities. The introduction of STEM engagement at early stages of school will develop a spirit of innovation and inculcate scientific temper in these kids. Our organization will look forward to work on such innovative sessions in the coming time too.
